We have a very special TB (ex-race) gelding at home who we absolutely adore. He has been very successful in the show ring but has now sustained an injury which will probably scar. Because we think the world of him we were wondering how you would go about tracking something down with similar breeding? Is subscribing to the Racing Post the only answer? Thanks in advance.

Racing post is certainly a way to do this- I found siblings of my mare this way and didn't have to subscribe. I may have registered my email but certainly didn't part with any cash.

The other way I found matches was by googling images of her sire/ dam (names taken from passport) which came up with lots of progeny pictures tagged with the names of the parents, some of them on stud pages etc. some full siblings, some half.

Can wetherbys help you?

If they haven't raced they may not be listed but even without membership on RP if you search the dam it will you show any that have been through the sales raced or not. Weatherbys bloodstock website will show you progeny out of a mare but you need to register, it's free though, or it was years ago when I looked up my mares half brothers / sisters.

Thanks everyone, his name is By All Men, by Among Men and out of Bellinzona (think the mare could be USA but would have to check passport)

Your horse is probably the last from the mare, she was born in 1981 so would have been 19 when she had him, the list of half siblings on the sport horse data site goes back to 1986, there are a few second generation listed which could give you a few options to try and trace.

You horse has no known full brothers or sisters.

There are 10 foals from the same Dam to have raced. 2 have black type the rest were normal racehorses.

The last known foal from the dam went through the sales a few years ago, never raced and is by Quws - if you track it down don't offer to buy it, Quws horses are notoriously nut jobs! I've worked with 3 of them!

This should link you to the mare and her progenies sales returns:

Fast Tempo and Best Swinger both had foals. BS has had 2 black type offspring.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Knew the mare would be batting on a bit and a bit gutted EKW to hear your opinion of Quws progeny as I would have set about tracing the last one!! Thanks for the tip off though!!!
Can I trace his breeder's contact details from there?

You would need to email or ring Weatherbys and ask them for the breeders details.

Of the 3 Quws horses I have worked with - one is a bolter, a numb headed big thug who doesn't stop for no one or nothing. In his last PTP he ran into the ambulance on the way to the start. Needless to say he is now a companion! One was the worst bucker you could ever get. He didn't just buck with excitement, he bucked to seriously pummel you into the ground and hurt you. The 3rd was a nervous wreck and really needed a one to one relationship, which he has now but still get's stressed away from his home comforts.
