With a bit of luck Rosie will be going to Weston Park in October for the JRN finals. She came second at Brigstock today so with her win at Burnham Market we're hoping she'll be invited.
And well done to Bee and pony for getting one of only 8 eight clear rounds - go Eastern region! Thanks everyone. I think Rosie is on a roll at the moment - June 2nd she's supposed to be at Little Downham JRN on BB then has a ride on a horse called Itsthekingmurphy in the maiden at Dingley point to point. Not sure if she'll actually do both though
Bee's SJ was great, XC not quite so good though. Pony went out of start box like a loony but went dead fences 1 - 4, stopped at a max height and width table at 5 jumped 2nd time and then stopped at big awkward roll top into water at 6 , got going again clear and at 22, the corner complex I had told to to go long route if she wasn't clear at that point, she had a fly in her eye and went direct and ran out. Went long route ok. Somehow got E so had to object (in a friendly way!) which was removed later. Apparently it was because she had crossed her tracks to represent at alternative but you couldn't represent at the alternative unless you did. She finished 18 or 19, she will listen to me next time!
But it's her first season JRN isn't it and only her third or fourth round? I think she's doing really well and it can't be very pleasant getting a fly in your eye (goggles?). I bet they'll be up at the top before the end of the year. Rosie crashed out of XC last year at Weston Park because both she and BB were blinded by the low sun at one of the jumps.
I should think both Bee and Rosie will be very relieved when they've finished their GCSEs and can really concentrate on the riding!
Bee is going for 11 A's as she wants to do either Vet or Medicine so is working really hard. She also flexi boards at school (Stortford) and so is away 2 nights a week. She swims competitively too, at school and is doing her Silver Duke of Edingburugh award, I don't know how she juggles it all. Her school day on a normal day is to leave home at 7.30am and to return around 6pm, her ponies get lunged by me quite often!.
Does Rosie manage to fit lots of stuff in of does she do mainly riding?
Were you there yesterday, I was stood behind/next to Rosie at the prize giving, we should say hello one day!
I wasn't there unfortunately - I live near Chelmsford and most of the competitions are just too far away so I get updates by mobile if they have time. I'll say hallo if I do get to go ever. Rosie spends most of her spare time riding I think - she always seems to be doing some kind of competition although not so much as when she was in ponies. She is doing 11 GCSEs as well but I don't think she's expecting all As. It's a small world isn't it - one of my nephews was head boy at Stortford College about 4 years ago!
I'm sure none of us did this much when we were kids. I try very hard to not live my dreams through what Bee is doing. I grew up working at a riding school as my parents felt that ponies would be a passing phase! I rode competitively at Uni though and had various ponies on loan to play with. I was lucky enough to represent GB at a Uni comp, combined training.
I have another child who is 14 and no longer rides and a non horsey OH too. We also spend quite a bit of time in France at our ski chalet.
I suppose all we can do is the best for our kids, give them all the opportunities and it is up tp them to take them. Hard work to get it right as parents though!
It sounds as though you had to work hard to pursue your dreams and achieve success. And thank you - Rosie's had the advantage of horsey parents but nothing has been handed to her on a plate. She puts in a lot of work and is always keen to learn. I don't know where these couch-potatos are, she and her brother (not horsey but rides well enough to enjoy hunting if there's a not too loony horse/pony available) - and both their parents for that matter - are always either doing something or asleep!
