The little fiord pony at my yard needs his mane tidying up. He has the classic (gorgeous) sticking up mane, blond with the dark stripe running up the center but it is starting to flop over to one side now.

What is the 'proper' style for a fiord pony? Should it be shorter by the withers and gradually get longer towards the ears? (this is how he was when he arrived). Also, do I just chop it short with scissors? And how long should the longest bit be?

thanks - not come across one of these breeds before, but he is so pretty, I don't want to mess it up! lol

Would this be of use?

It says that the mane should be trimmed in a convex upward curve with the darker center hair left longer than the sides.

Have fun!

i was always told that the to flaxen bits either side of the dorsal stripe should be shorter than the dorsal strip

thats right! its supposed to be short enought to stand up in a sort of bow if that makes sense? So suppose thats means slighty shorter at the top and at the withers
