Fired tendons?

I heard they do it to race horses when their tendons go.

If you do a search on here on 'pin firing' you will find a wealth of information. It is typically used on racehorses (although I believe it's illegal in this country) as its thought to speed up the healing of tendon injuries. Not a very nice practice and the results are much debated - have a look!! :-)

Is it illegal? A horse at my yard had this done recently as he had a hind suspensory injury that wasn't healing, so both his hindlegs were pin-fired to jolt the body into action and try and heal the original injury. Seems to be working as he is sound now, though not started trotting yet so no idea how well it's worked (scans due next month). It wasn't very niice when he'd first had it done though as his legs were very swollen and sore
