Hi,

In the last two days the police and fire brigade have been more frequent at my yard than ever before. They set fire to part of the muckheap- flames the size of two cars together.
And more seriously a paddock gate and tree whilst the horse was inside!

The police have been trying to catch them but have so far failed. They have been very good though and respond quickly.

The fire brigade had a good opportunity to do something yesterday but the lads just made it into a joke and started filming things with their phones. It angers me so much ! ! !

Im really anxious as in the late 80's a horse was killed at my yard by a fire started by troublecausers. All of the other horses rescued suffered terrible terrible problems.

I ve been checking on him more reglularly, but I live a distance so there is only so much I can do... Im looking at a new yard tomorrow...fingers crossed its not as suseptable to the same thing.

Does or has anyone else had simular problems at their yard?

I wander if these yobs would be so happy if someone came and set fire to there homes.
One of our liverys set fire to our muckheap by accident with a cigarette (we were a strict no smoking yard and thought hiding behind the muckheap was a good idea), it took 3 fire engines and a water bouzer (sp) to put it out and the land underneath never dried out properly afterwards and the tractor to push it up always use to get stuck from then on.

Yeah I think they are so pathetic the way they choose to spend their lives setting fire to trees and stable yards! I mean, for goodness sake how fun!!! I really hope they get caught anyway and thankyou for your reply. xxx

Our hay barn was burnt to the ground by some kids on bonfire night, think it's inexcusable behaviour and that the little s***s responsible should be punished, but doubt they will be... Good luck with finding a new & safer yard

I would definately get away from there if you can. Is there no way some cameras can be put up to try to catch them? Do they have any idea who is doing this?

I have unfortunately been on 3 yards that have had major fires, it is so dangerous. 1 the hay barn went up, it was attached to some of the stables, luckly they got the horses out of the stables and managed to save them as it was a listed building, the fire brigade were out for a few days saming down. Though to be a rat or something chewing through electrical wire. The next was kids setting fire to the hay again, this time there was a gap between the hay and the stables and there were less hay. Last was a arsonist that set fire to several buildings including...surprise surprise the hay barn which again backed onto the stables, while I was at college. These all happened within a couple of years. I now keep my horse in a field so nothing to burn thank goodness!!

Never been on a yard where its happened, thank god!! If you can't move them, I'd put them in fields with nothing that can be set fire to, use strong electric fencing and padlock gates - at least then there's no risk of the horses being hurt. I'd take my tack and rugs home too. What little ****heads, grrrrr

Hi...well I went to view the other yard properly with my family.
But its about 15 miles away and I have no car! So I would have to cycle through bridleways each morning and night. Its just impossible. So I will have to think of something else. There are hardly any stable yards around here you see as we are in a city...I dont know what to do now and its a worry , a big one.

Hi
No body lives on site but there are residents literally next door to the entrance gate.
I do try to check on him throughout evening on my bike...which is a bit of a task.

As I said there are residents nearby-ish , still, it is not good enough as they may not notice or see any activity going on.

nope- nothing like this has ever happended mainly due to a house right next door and owners that live on site, and a guard dog! I would certainly be considering moving yards for piece of mind

I really really do want to protect him. So much.
But I can't get to the place I looked at.
Its basically impossible- especially when I start college again in september, plus I cannot really afford the other place.(But obviously hes way more important than money and I would defienetly find a way). It really is just the distance. I m really stuck ): . xx

Can you borrow a caravan and have a couple of burly chaps stay there to try to catch them, so unpeakable life forms killed some horses near to me a few months back - the risk that you lot may succeed would not cause me a second thought - my horse would be gone!

There have been some troubles at our yard in the past including a barn being set on fire we believe by local youths. thankfully it was well away from the stables although 1 or 2 horses had to be moved due to the smoke. We occasionaly get bugged by kids (we are at the edge of a housing estate) playing in the fields and the local teenagers have a drinking den not far from 1 of the fields but they never seem to cause us any trouble so its felt better to let sleeping dogs lie rather than provoke potential trouble by having them moved on.
