We've never been to Firle before but are very likely to go again as we had a great time and it's a lovely place although the gateway is very narrow which made them all a bit nervous as they squeezed the lorry through - my car was fine though lol

I went to Sussex on Thursday evening to stay with my son just outside Brighton and the others came on Saturday and went straight to Firle. We joined them about an hour before dressage.

Rosie was feeling the pressure (totally self-induced by the way - we were just hoping to enjoy ourselves with no traumas) as it was her first BE event since the crash. Dressage was very good, 28.5 and he went really well apart from a bit of a trip at one point. Think he was 3rd after that. Pic (still from vid so not great quality)

Quite a gap until the SJ which we managed to fill with the odd beer and by watching the cricket match going on behind the lorry.
First one down (she said she missed the stride and those who know about these things agreed) but then he was very naughty and stopped for no reason whatsoever at no.4, clearing it after getting a couple of sharp slaps on the backside. 8 faults + 5 time and big

from R who insisted it was her fault although Mum and Dad said it wasn't. A quick change of clothes (and bit for Bertie) and she was off XC which I thought went very well and so did R except he was a bit reluctant at one - sorry can't remember which one she said - and stormed through the finish just 7 seconds over the time. Pics from vid

They ended up 17th but if the SJ had gone better she'd have been within touch of the winner. It really didn't matter though, we had a great day.

They stayed overnight at Plumpton racetrack courtesy of a friend of R's uncle (my son) and we came back this morning, tired but happy

Thank you for reading (I can offer a glass of red as a reward if that appeals) and apologies for not replying/commenting on everyone else's competition posts but I'm shattered. I have read them all and as always I'm so impressed by the progress everyone makes from one comp to the next - you're all stars

She wants to but parents are (not surpisingly) a bit reluctant. If she does I think she'll be a bit picky about which ones she rides. The people who owned the one that died when she was up have another she has ridden in the past and they say no one but Rosie is allowed to ride it.

We'll see - I don't think she's strong enough yet and now she's got to have this wretched operation on Tuesday which is bound to set her back a bit

They discovered an ovarian cyst during one of the numerous scans when she was in a coma and said it would probably disappear. It didn't though and now they say it needs to be removed before it twists (or something). It seems to take anything from 2 days to 6 weeks for people to get over it according to Google but my money's on 2 days knowing Rosie

Thank you mbp - how's things with you?
eta - whoops, 2 more posts while I was replying, thanks aregona and teapot - she was cross with herself (not Bert - he can do no wrong apparently

) but is beginning to accept it's going to take time.

Lol I'm sure Bertie can do no wrong but he sounded like his halo slipped a little

She is amazing I still cannot get over how quickly she is competing again - I actually saw results before I saw your report and was gobsmacked!

Where is she going next?

Hope the op goes well, if anything good comes out of your nightmare then at least they've seen the cyst early?

Jules - it depends how long the recovery is - she had a plan which was (I think) a novice, another PN in case the novice didn't go well, and then the Open Int at Little Downham but we'll have to wait and see now. Bertie's halo has definitely slipped - he's been doing DCs at disco (sometimes) so he was out of order

You're absolutely right, it's a very good thing they found it as a twisted one can be nasty apparently and often gets mistaken for appendicitis
Thank you for the good wishes Prudunce and RM of 4 - think it's best I don't tell her it might take 6 weeks (too scared

lol)
