Well my little mare went to firle today to do her first ever affiliated event, and she ended up having to go PN as there was no space in the intro
crazy.gif
It was her 2nd ever ODE -the 1st being a tootle round a 2'6'' at ardingly!!!!! so this was always going to be interesting
wink.gif
I couldnt ride her as my accreditation on her was not through yet so the son of the person we brought her from rode her
smile.gif

So into the dressage at 16.18pm and she did-considering he doesnt do a lot of dressage-a very adequate test and we were very pleased with a score of 37.6
smile.gif
Bless her-she thought she had finished for the day but oh no..................

onto the sjing which as firle always is, was buzzy and full of people and the added difficulty of the arena being full of trees
crazy.gif
well she jumped a really lovely flowing round for just 4 pen. which was carelessness really but we and him were pleased with her attitude and were just using the dressage and sjing really as a means to go xc which was what we had come to teach her
crazy.gif
wink.gif

By this time 17:34pm her little 5 yr old legs were becoming weary or so she told us
wink.gif
but we kitted her up for the xc and wandered down to the start. We thought that the firle PN course was pretty meaty (especially as a first time course) and so i was pretty nervous-(well to tell the truth i didnt think she'd make it over the first three!!!!!! shows my faith in her doesnt it
blush.gif
) so i positioned myself by the water so i couldnt be physically sick and he stormed out of the start box!!!!!!!!! I shouldnt have worried really-he rode her beautifully and it just so happens that the one thing she had a problem with was the ..................yes u guessed it the water
blush.gif
she jumped the fence two strides before the water then being a little dim only caught sight of the water when she had landed
blush.gif
and slammed on the brakes
mad.gif
she then proceded after standing for less than a split second to wiggle towards the water with vocal encouragement and two hefty smacks!!!!! and trotted purposefully through it- i thought great-she hasnt really stopped, she didnt step back-that is great-only to hear over the tanoy that she had been awarded two stops
mad.gif
mad.gif
mad.gif
i was furious - she never stopped - just had a wiggle
frown.gif
but as i contemplated this with my brother we saw her storming back across the far field and over the sky jump-which she catapulted over
grin.gif
then she stormed home-didnt look at anything-the tricky combinations, the large trakhener or anything and flew home-to add just 4 time penalties to her now cricket score which was pretty ok too
smile.gif

So we are really hopeful that she will still make an eventer yet
smile.gif
we just have to convince her that having a paddle is just as good as getting airborn

Well done!!

Sometimes the jump judges can be really harsh and mark 20pens for a hesitation without them stepping back, not really fair.

Im off there 2moro for the Novice. So whats this about the trees!!!? Horse is very strong jumping so not looking forward to having to negotiate with trees in the warm up!

well done. Sounds fab, water is pretty tough and all the babies in the intro were spooking everywhere! Judges sound like they were being very strict.

I think I saw you and your girl, did person riding her use to whipper in for south down and eridge?

Hey! Bloody brilliant!
Very harsh to be awarded two stops at the water - did you query it all all? But look at like this - she is five years old, her second ever event, affiliated AND PN. You can work on the water but she is bold and brave over everything else. She deserves her carrots tonight. Lets hope her WF sister can live up to this start!

You should feel very proud tonight

Your'll be fine - they are not massive trees and they are boxed off. I always thought they were a bit useful to help me with lines to fences as I had to know where to turn, but depending on the course they can obstruct your sight of your next fence - what to do? Walk the course a few times.............
Good luck. I'll look for your report tomorrow!

trees are merely annoying as they obstruct some lines, e.g force you to angle third fence on intro hence it was one of the most influential fences. Don't think they are that bothersome xc. Sj is filled with them though, with lots of related distances between them!

I'm very good out hunting but my horsey isn't hee hee! He enjoys it too much. Haven't hunted much with s and e. Bloody ban completely destroying people's lives!

Did you get any nice pictures? - think I might go spending tomorrow! Are you watching tomorrow? You must be really looking forward to riding her yourself now?
