Took my little 4 yr old to his first 2 day competition and he was a very good boy all things considered! On Friday night, he wouldn't stop bucking to ride in but all cos he was excited - not nasty!!

Saturdays test was a NIGHTMARE. A policeman had stopped his car on road and was hiding in bushes taking photos, Ruben wouldn't go near the judges tent and was all wobbly, rode into the white marker and the WHOLE pista went down like a thing of dominos BUT he didn't panic about it.

and finished all the canter work in trot. For that magnificent performance, he got the grand score of 50%!!!!

Sunday was much better. We worked in alone in a little lunging pen and he was much calmer (was shaking with excitement when we tacked him up!!). He went int he pista on his own and only had one wobble on a circle and didn't canter on the right leg so we did that bit in trot. This one got 53.4%!! But at least he improved and was much braver.

I am thrilled with him and everyone was admiring him. So there is a hope for the next comps!!!

Just thought I'd share!!

Oh that's great news, what a lot for a 4yro to take in, I'm not surprised you're pleased with him.

I assume a 'pista' is the arena, when you say on Sunday he went in on his own, I don't understand, do you usually do the test with others in there in Spain, like in Germany? Sorry a bit blonde

PMSL That was MY yard from 12 to 19 (I was the YM)! It has changed TONS since I was there, went up this summer to have a nosey and they have made it into some kind of country club now!

Thats standing the otherside of the pista by the - now - tack shop (me jumping LOL) - you can see the sea and my school *sob* The tack shop used to be 2 stables and the restaurant thing never used to be there (in fact that is where we had our muck heap!

Oh yes we always had the polo stables (the crappy ones that go on and on up the back), we used to have well over 100 horses in most of the time! Thats why we had so many die when we got Peste Equina - we lost around 100 horses then
