Hi all,

I've been away from horses for quite a number of years, but this coming March I'll finally be back and will have a 7month foal to keep me busy :D

So I can be as prepared as I can be for the unfortunate but inevitable moments - what do you have in your first aid kit? Is there anything that you wouldn't be without or can recommend any particular products.

I've been looking and the choice that is out there now is considerably more than it used to be!

Many thanks.

Cotton wool roll
Dressings such as melonin and allevyn (10x10 and 10x20)
Povidone iodine or hibiscrub
Intrasite gel or similar
Vetrap
Poultice-animalintex
Scissors
Thermometer
Black tape
Elastoplast
Vets phone number!

Just a basic list

Agree entirely with above:

Would also add:

Latex gloves- Just to make sure you don't introduce 'bugs' from your own hands which may potentially be more harmful than those already in wounds!
TORCH
Cotton wool -yes but lint-free would be best
KY Jelly (!) - Good idea to put a squidge in an open wound before cleaning it. It's amazing the way that you can then wipe out grit, hairs etc.
