I'm looking to get a first aid qualification; it would be useful at work, and for my teaching.

Anyone know of the right qualification to aim for? and the costs?

I am trained by the ambulance service but also work for a first aid company at equine events. We teach too
You need to decide whether u want a very basic emergency first aid at work (1 day) or a first aid at work which is much better (3 day)
Costs range from £100 to £180 per day depending on where u are and who you use

You want to get the 3 day HSE one which is first aid at work. You can do it with the Red Cross or St John Ambulance. Off the top of my head I think it is roughly £320 inc VAT, so if you can get your employer to pay for it all the better!

Got mine through work so they paid, but I always put myself forwards for the 3 day course.
When I was working as a freelance Instructor it saved me a fortune.
Always handy at events when i marshall as well.

I know Medicircle do courses but not sure how much they are per person.

Hehe if your employers paying for the three day course. I did that (though I did offer to make up the difference). Also through St Johns you are insured for using first aid on public too :)
