First attempt lunging...hmm...

Thought i would attempt to lunge Merlin on my own last night...

For the last few weeks we have been long reining him, and have shown him how to lunge only once before, with 2 people, one leading and then progressed to sending him on without leading.

But thats the only time he'd experienced lunging before and last night he was PERFECT!! For his first time just me and him on our own i was expecting him to turn in, maybe have a strop...

Nothing

He walked calmly in a circle on both reins, trotted when asked and walked again when asked

I was so pleased with him i just hope this will continue when i actually come to ride him!

Yeh bless him! He's so funny, we've discovered that when he isn't sure of something he tends to just stop and stand there, which is the much preferred response of course to maybe spinning/bucking/rearing!
