My connemara cross has turned out to be a little fluffier than expected for our first winter together. Last time I took him out he sweated excessively and I think for the sake of his own comfort it's time to get the clippers out!

As it's his first clip I'm not sure what to expect; he has a very sweet and willing nature but being a 4yo means things like clippers can be scary! I'd like something short and sweet for him so he leaves it with a positive experience.

Was thinking of a low trace clip, but his neck really is rather fluffy... any other suggestions?

I clipped my 4yo WBx for the first time a few days ago. I just took the lot off, though. He was fine - fidgeted a bit when I did his head, but nothing serious.

When I clipped our four year old I went high onto his neck, from the jawline and then sloped down to just in front of his stifles.. like a racer clip but not quite! It took all the fluffy neck and underbelly off and worked well for a youngster not in full work. He stood, untied, in the middle of the barn while I clipped. Dope-on-a-rope!!
