First Clip

Is there any cut off point for giving your horse it's first clip of the year? I can remember always being told that you shouldn't do a first clip after the 1st of January but is this a myth?

I didn't clip my mare back in the autumn as I wasn't sure whether I'd be moving/have time to ride & she's much more comfortable being unrugged.. However it doesn't look like I'm moving out any time soon & she's getting a bit sweaty when ridden, especially when schooling so was considering giving her a small bib / poss trace clip... or will this affect the coat regrowth?

I clipped in feb for the first time last year and his coat came through fine x

Thanks, probably just an "old wives tale" regarding the 1st of January cut-off!
If the weather comes warmer again I will have to give her a bath & a haircut
