As it was a rather successful day I thought I would do a report.
Grey_Eventer and I went to Quainton Stud today for Aylesbury Vale's Show Jumping competition.
I already knew how nice the Stud was having been there before, so was rather excited at the chance of competitively jumping on the amazing surface rather than schooling!
The set up was really good and the courses were built to a high standard, run under single phase rules, fences 6 to 12 being timed, but everyone jumped the whole course as faults were occurred throughout (a nice way to get your monies worth if you happen to fault early on!).
I jumped the 1m - 1.05m and 1.05m to 1.10m classes. Both classes were absolutely up to height, with a good range of questions too, including a rather nice triple bar, viaduct wall, skinny planks and swedish oxer.
Ted warmed up shouting at his friend mostly *sigh* He then proceeding to spook all the way into the arena and the compere asked if he could call him *Pansy* LOL.
Anyway, it wasn't the prettiest riding, but effective riding doesn't have to be pretty all of the time
We had some interesting lines, some swearing, a couple of spooks, a couple of *no I cannot possibly jump that* moments, but I flapped and kicked him round and was very proud of him to go clear. I wasn't at all interested in the time, I just wanted that DC.
Results announced and I was really pleased to find out that we were third
On to the second class, the jumps were put up really quickly so we just went straight in. It was a MUCH better round, taking strides out here and there and a lot more relaxed. Again, I didn't push for speed as he is a big horse and we will never be the fastest, but we posted another clear in a decent time and I was happy. We watched the succeeding horses go and had to wait for another clear, which I was sure would be faster than me but wasn't, and in first place I stayed, although there were some very fast 4 faulters. So FIRST and a rather big grin!
I am so very proud of Ted, he has been so under the weather and I have worked really hard to try and get on top of his liver issues. I haven't jumped a 1.10m for about 5 years either, and he wasn't the easiest to ride today, but I have come away feeling like a 12 year old and really very excited for the future
Vid and pics to follow.
