I love this time of year

I had a phone call last night from a very excited mare owner telling me her wish had come true. Her mare had just had a palomino filly to Derek. She is over the moon with the foal who is bouncing around the stable.
She is so pleased she is sending the mare back to him again!
My first mare to foal, Cream Bun, was due the same day as Dream but looks like she won't foal for at least another two weeks!! She went 12 months last time - I hate the waiting!
Only 29 more Derek babies to go

Congrats, I admired the pic in H and H this week, he looked stunning as ever!
One day I will attempt to breed a palomino, how likely is putting a chesnut with a bright bay and chesnut parents likely to be? (totally clueless re colours I'm afraid!)
Our late chesnut stallion (the sire of above) did produce a palomino to a palomino mare but it wasn't ours.

Glad you like the pic in H&H. I think I took about 200 to get that one. The school is dark and I cant get a quick enough shutter speed! Fortunately he is moving on Sunday and they have a big outdoor school, so hopefully I wll get lots of good quality photos!

If the mare is chestnut she has two chestnut genes. This means you have 50% chance of a palomino.
Cheers
Gill

and the foals are as well - I've got one of his 2 yr olds out of my 14hh welshxAA mare and he's a stunning dark dun - and already 15.2 at 22 months old !!!!!!!!!

oh - I'm used to the wait - must be the 'native' bit in my mares

358/359 days is when my lot foal - they like to hang on until I'm so exhausted I'm absolutely guaranteed to miss seeing it happen
