Having not had a horse for 3 years and now have my new mare we are doing our first unaffiliated dressage together this weekend - I've had to hunt out all my competition stuff (as well as get some new bits!)

I need a hat silk (I currently only have the Le Mieux one with the Pom Pom for every day!)

Would something like this be ok?

Anything else I've forgotten?! I have a black jacket, breeches and stock shirt etc and have just got a bridle number thingy!

that will be fine.

Do you have two numbers one each side (affiliated rules changed a while back, and most unaff follow affiliated rules)?

Enjoy

I think that would be fine (in black if you have a black jacket) - a velvet one might be even better though?

It sounds like you've got most of it covered. All I can think of is a hairnet if your hair is long and gloves.

Good luck, enjoy it!

That will be OK or you can get the velvet hat covers that might look a bit smarter, I tend to always wear a velvet hat for dressage but I mainly do showing so maybe I am just programmed to wear a velvet one.

No I only have one set? My friend does unaffiliated and she only uses one so i'm hoping that will be ok?!

Although I've just looked at all my shirts etc and neither of my jackets are anywhere to be seen! Now I'm panicking!

If it says that it is run under BD rules then you will need a number on each side of the horse - can be on the bridle or saddle cloth. Gloves must be worn. The hat cover looks fine.

Hope you enjoy yourself

I wear a tweed on the very few occasions I go anywhere. I had a tweed for showing and didn’t see the point in getting another for anything else given I barely ever do it. I do have an old navy jacket but I doubt I’d even get an arm in these days, let along anything else.

You do need a number each side, although the penalty for not doing so if the judge takes the point is only a deduction of 2 points. At unaff, venues and judges will have sympathy for people not being aware of certain rules but knowing and choosing not to comply is not really respectful of the venue or the judge.

I'd just ask the organisers what the score is with numbers. My club's dressage competitions are very small so we don't have numbers at all, we just go in and tell the judge our names - the writer normally knows who we are anyway!

This - often I think BD rules are loosely followed around some of the less important details like numbers. Certainly I think it is unlikely you’d be penalised at unaffiliated for only having one number. My RC doesn’t require a number at all but follows BD rules more generally.

Good Luck for this weekend, sounds like you're pretty ready now, i'm just worried about these storms heading our way!

I am aiming to get out with my new mare this weekend too after a few outings i had to withdraw due to abscess and then the weather stopped us getting out last weekend!

I'd get another bridle/saddlecloth number and display your number on both sides, just incase.
Oh sorry ignore this, just seen your post above.
