Yesterday we took the Haffalump off to a local unaffiliated show to do some jumping, neither me or my sharer are the most confident, and I hadn't jumped more than 4 x 6" X poles at any one time since I last worked with horses (about 10yrs ago!) and I decided the 50cm class was the best place to start :D

When I say local, the farm we were going to is an 4 mile hack away, including a 300m stretch of the A140 with everyone and everything flying past at 60mph or more . Louisa, my sharer, hacked him over with a friend and her horse and said that he didn't even notice the traffic. They had a slight moment when they got chased by a loose dog, and Nugz ended up kicking out at the dog as it went for his heels

Short story long - considering this is the first show under saddle AND it involved lots of whizzy, sometimes out of control pony clubbers I couldn't have asked for anything more from him.

He was a complete star. Nothing fazed him (loose calf on other side of a fence got his head up and a snort, but he does that with other horses :D), happily grazed, or stood and snoozed while waiting.

Didn't get placed, but we didn't go for that. I should've got eliminated twice as I completely bodged up and we got 8 faults for...well, one refusal and not sure what else, but I was just glad to be allowed to carry on!! Sharer did 2 x clear rounds and also did the 50cm after seeing me fluff and she was 40secs (yup...40secs!!) quicker which wasn't difficult as I took a couple of detours  and unfortunately he dropped a leg on the last fence so got 4 faults.

Then I hacked him home and we had a paddle in the river :)

I  my pony :D

Well done! He is very handsome and I love your reins- are they rope?

The jumping photo is v impressive, look at those lovely knees snapped right up! V clever pony you should be proud!

Yup - Cotton Polocrosse reins. Easier to grip than leather and not as bulky as rubber :)

He certainly does give air over the fence - I knew he was over-jumping as could feel it, but I am thinking I should maybe do 80cm next time :D
