Hello!

I'm sure this has been done to death, but I'm thinking of taking baby pony (he's 5, don't know how much longer I can call him Baby Pony!) to a first showing show. It's in-hand 'Open Horse' class, he's still quite babyish and has a few lumps and bumps so not expecting magic but good experience and (hopefully) fun for both of us. My first competition (aside from the odd one at our 'home' yard) and his first 'outing'. He's passported ISH with unknown breeding but he's got an ID head with a bit of Welsh D in there somewhere. Dark bay, 3 kind of white socks although I have been told they come up white with scrubbing :P

He'd have to be bathed to within an inch of his life and plaited, tail pulled etc is it an odd number of plaits with the forelock making it even?

Would his regular black raised cavesson bridle with a snaffle be okay? Or could potentially source a brown in-hand showing bridle.

For me, tweed jacket, shirt and tie (I like burgundy with him), cream or canary jods because he's got black legs? Would clean and tidy country boots be okay? Should I wear a hat (riding or otherwise)?

Picture of the offending beast wrapped in toilet roll for a fancy dress class a few weeks ago as a giggle for those who have made it this far!

Your bridle will be fine for that level. Although imagine he would look smart in a nice flat noseband. I always go by anything that is old enough to broken and riding should be shown in the correct for type riding bridle.
Yes to plaits, uneven amount (traditionally 9 or 11) then forelock makes it even.
I just wear trousers and short jodh boots, go for a light colour as his legs are dark.
I always wear a hard hat but then my youngster can muck about and safety wise it's just not worth the risk. Don't forget gloves and I carry a cane.
You don't need to spend a fortune, my tie, trousers and shirt were all from charity shops and the jacket second hand.
Read up on how to show in hand properly as you will hopefully gain some brownie points if you do a good job of it. Looks a lovely type and clearly very accepting of things lol! Good luck!
This is how we generally look, (3 in this pic hence the inhand bridle :) )
