Somehow I've managed to escape having a horse that's ever showed any signs of colic until this morning when I was woken up by a call from fellow livery to tell me G was looking very sorry and she had found him laid in the boggy mud by the gate. Cue quickest getting up ever and dash to yard!

I honestly did not expect him to look so sad, the poor lad has ears caked full of mud, mane and tail are just one solid mass of mud and hair - he is well and truly coated in our lovely clay mud!

Managed to keep him up and got vet to pop out to take a look at him, and he's since perked up having had a little hay and water, even managed a small poo and much brighter in himself but it's put paid to my Saturday plans as will now have to go back to yard every couple of hours to check him and/or give him a little more hay!

I don't know if I'm glad I've been lucky enough to dodge a case of colic for so long, or unlucky I've no experience of dealing with it as it was most certainly not a fun way to spend Sat morn!!

I think so yeah - no blockage but a bit gassy, so vet not too concerned just need to keep an eye on it. Glad I had no plans to go racing at Cheltenham today, they'd have been ruined lol!

Glad it was a mild case. There is nothing as miserable looking as a horse with tummy ache. Going forward maybe you might want to consider something like pink powder(NAF) - it is cheap and palatable and you only need a little tiny bit, my colic prone chap has it every day and it has helped him (better poos, and fewer episodes and less severe).

Interesting you say that, I had him on PP last winter and into spring but came off it in summer as wanted it to help him hold weight better - think may go back to it. Hoping it was just a 'one of those things' one off but I suppose PP can't do any harm and would assist...
