Hi everyone,
We took our very first foal, a filly to Catherston for the Futurity yesterday and she was a star. I just want to apologise to anyone who was there, as our mare made an unscheduled dismount from the trailer and careered across the field, foal in tow. She's very highly strung, but we've only had her since April, and didn't realise how highly strung she can be! Giggles (the foal) was an angel though, and stood while her mother made a wally of herself in front of the poor vet. Somehow the little one managed to get two 9.5s from the vet, and I nearly keeled over in shock! Thankfully once they were in the trailer, the mare settled very well, I think it's just a combination of not being exposed to much (she's 9 and hasn't been broken in) and the excitement of seeing so many horses. Lots of TLC is needed to help her get her confidence in strange situations, so that's our project for now as she failed to get in foal this year. We were gutted at first, but it now means we have coverings set up for next year of Stanhopes Diddicoy and the homozygous tobiano stallion Chess M.
We've got six mares, four of which have been bought in the last six months. Luckily mine and Mum's business partner knows what she's doing, so we're in good hands
Well done to everyone at all the Futuritys. We'll be going to the championships with a SJ 2 year old, Ridgeway Rooney by Rhondeo and I'm so excited already!
