Hi all,
Dylan & I attended our first session with Frank Morrey, gun dog trainer, today & I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the confidence to give it a go.
I think Frank thought we were a couple of numpties when we turned up. Both Dylan & his play mate Murphy were a bit excited to say the least. They'd been in the back of the truck for over an hour & had a bit too much energy stored up - much leaping around & straining at the lead - naughty boys.
However, once they had been given a few minutes to settle down Dylan did some reasonable work, including off lead heel & retrieve, even with strange dogs around as distractions. I was very pleased with him & Frank seemed pleasantly surprised, saying we had fooled him to start with, giving him a red herring!
I have been given plenty of things to work on at home, so I'll see how we get on. It appears that up until now I haven't given enough attention to the small stuff, ie not looking for perfection, thinking he's almost done it so that's ok - I can see now that that's not good enough, so the biggest change needs to be in my attitude.
Wish us luck with our home work!
