galloping though the woods with no stirrups!!!
Hemir hadn't been on a hack for three weeks....1st week i was ill and didn't ahve the strength to take him out so just schooled, second week he was lame, and last week i have no idea why we didn't go out!
I normally hack him out 2 or 3 times a week...so he allready wasn't happy with me the other day...fizzy and throwing in rears and bucks when he had had enough of the exercise!!
So set off this evening at about 8, still warm, walked for a little while then had controlled trot in the woods, then back to walk...etc, etc!! Until the tracks softenend then gave him his head a let him have a canter!! after that he was clam and relaxed so we walked for about 5 mins and came to a 'dead end', well it was blocked by a tractor!! So had to turn round and as i turned Hemir around he gave an allmighty buck, i lost my stirrups, he put his head down and went!!! I just sat deep in my seat as he bucked and just enjoyed himself
I was either going to sit there and let him gallop or i was going to fall off trying to stop him...bad i know but did not want to fall off so let him gallop as i sat there
I managed to stop him, before the end of the track...but as soon as i was getting my feet back into the stirrups he was off again...luckliy no bucks so was able to finish of putting my feet back in the stirrups
then had to tun him around, after i had stopped him again, and made him walk back the way we'd just came, so he knew i was in control and he doesn't get to take the mick anymore....I'M n charge not him....like it was a few months ago
so got to a turning off the tack and got on the road and mad him work for the rest of the way home.....trot on for 2 stides, back to walk, trot holt....shoulders in, leg yielding, everything i could think of to get his mind off the scary cows that were chasing him and the cantering which is sooo much fun
Got home and mum burst out laughing when she heard our 'adventure'!!! A few months ago this would have scared me and i probably wouldn't want to get back on tomorrow, but thanks to you guys, my mum and friends of ours my confidence has quadrupled!! It's still not where i would like it but it's getting there
thanks
