First horse

On the basis of if I can't beat them join them (wife and children have ponies) I'm going to buy my first horse.

He's 12, a cob 15.3 and what you might call an 'armchair ride'.

I know it's an unfair question but what do people think I might pay for such a beast?

About 3 - 3.5k, possibly a fair bit more? Depends what sort of 'cob' he is - Welsh, coloured, Heinz 57! LOL

Genuine 'armchair rides', particularly those of true weight-carrying ability, hold their value pretty well I think!

Go on, tell us you've just bought him for 1200 quid or something, you rotten so & so!

He's coloured, not especially attractive and has quite a bony bum, but I guess that could be improved. I see a lot of better looking horses for the same sort of price but I think the point is that they wouldn't be suitable for a beginner like me.

I think I'll haggle the price and go for it.
