Hi! I am planning to show my 3yr old this summer in youngstock classes at a local show. He is a cobxdales and not registered with any society. What would be the correct turnout for him and me in the ring? here is a pic of him a few weeks ago and a pic of him last summer. He will have a full mane by the time of the show, on the pic he was just growing it back.

As he is effectively a part-bred native, you should probably show him as a native i.e. unplaited, leave his feathers, make sure his white socks are gleaming, wearing a bridle with a snaffle bit. You need to be neat and tidy, perhaps some beige trousers and a tweed jacket?

Do practice a little at home, so that he is happy to stand still, walk out well and do a lovely active trot in-hand. In-hand showing really does help to teach a young horse about behaviour in public, so do give it a go.

NO Part bred natives are always shown plaited (or hogged in the case of show cobs). Only the purebreds are shown unplaited. how big is he? Plaited with a plain browband would be best for this boy as he is far to chunky for the coloured browband. unless her is between 14.3hh and 15.1hh in which case i'd hog him and show him as a cob

For biege trousers, tweed jacket, shirt, tie, some form of shoes that you can run in, gloves (preferably brown leather), and as he is youngstock at his first show then a hat (beagler or riding hat) is essential from a safety point of view.

Thanks everyone!, he is 13.2/3 at the moment. So that means Id have to plait him........Id better get practicing because Im rubbish at plaiting! argh!

be prepared for it all to get too much for him and no matter how placid he is normaly he may become very very strong at the show.
Normaly at the first show i expect one rear at least from youngstock, if it doesnt happen thats good but if it does then you are prepared for it and thats why i would STRONGLY reccomend that for his first show you wear a hard hat! better to wear it and not need it then to not wear it and end up getting a head injury!

Thanks everyone! Id better get practising plaiting then..............what about his tail does that need plaiting? and he will have feathers does that matter (I'm keeping them!)
