Hi,

I have just booked to take my 4 year old mare to her very first show!!! : )

It is an In hand Mountain & Moorland (registered and unregistered) Class at Merrist Wood.

I was really hoping for some help in how my mare and i should be turned out please?

All i know is that mare should be shown unplaited.

With regards to me, I have show clothing suitable for dressage competitions and wondered as its only low level showing at Merrist Wood would i be ok wearing this? Otherwise i am going to have to beg, borrow and steal clothing for the day.

Thanks in advance xxx

Turnout will depend to some extent on the breed your pony is.

You can wear riding clothes but a smart pair of trousers, shirt and waistcoat may be more comfy or a tweed jacket if you have one.

Mainly everything clean and tidy with pony shining from head to toe.

Sorry forgot to mention her Breed, She's Welsh Sec D cross Cleveland Bay.

If i managed to get hold of waistcoat etc what footwear should i wear?

Thanks

As she is a cross breed you can turn her out as you like really, tidy under her jaw and neaten her mane and tail to just give her a smart appearance.

On your feet something sensible you can run in, I wear short boots/ joddy boots.

Thanks for the replies.

I have read up that I can use a standard bridle on her. I have a nice posh rolled leather one. Will that be ok?

Thanks xxx

Tip - Make sure your boots have a good grip on them.
I learnt my lesson wearing jodphur boots when I arrived at a show that had grass like a golf course. It was like running on an ice rink with those boots on!

For running a good grippy sole is essential!

Ha ha! Thanks for the tip. Luckily it is indoor at Merrist Wood Arena, Surrey. So sand surface. Unfortunately I only have smart long riding boots so a friend is lending me her jod boots fingers crossed i wont slip over : )
