My last flat lesson was in around august last year, and having lost the use of the school I had been using, me and the orange one had to resort to being purely happy hackers over the winter. We ventured out at the weekend - thankfully lorry issues seem to be resolved
.
So after what seems an eternity of no schooling, we had a stab, to see where we're at, and what we need to work on.
Basically I was really pleased with her - she was a bit rusty in some of her trot - canter and canter - trot transitions, but tbh they are always our weakest point, more my fault than hers I think
. Trot - walk - trot transitions seem to have improved from our practicing out hacking
. We did some leg yield and shoulder in exercises, which again she seems to be doing really well with - again from me insisting on practicing these when we're out hacking lol.
We finished with some canter transitions on the centre line, getting the right strike off, and keeping straight. Right canter - no probs, lovely straight easy strike off. Left canter was a disaster on the Ctr line - but again I do think it was more me struggling to organise myself sufficiently rather than the orange ones fault. I know from when my RI has schooled her, that the orange one is far more capable than my riding allows - and tbh I really could do with more practice. But time and facilities always are a problem.
And a few Pics - who says you can't put bright red on an orange horse
The one thing I am really pleased with is that I'm doing a LOT less leaning forwards than I was before. I still creep forwards when things start going wrong, but on the whole much better
Gentle CC on the rusty pair welcome. Apart from my legs doing weird things in a couple of those
Big cheesy grin in place - and jammy doughnuts all round
