We bought Enys about a month ago now and some of you may know on the way back from picking him up we had an awful accident (To know the details click here). Luckily he escaped with only scrapes and bruises but up until now have not been able to do too much.

So after a couple of weeks of easy work decided to book a lesson with my instructor, so that we can start as we mean to go on.

Enys was a really good boy, although still a bit stiff behind (physio coming next week!), he really does try. He is green but has nice paces. I am hoping he is going to make a very nice riding club horse.

During the lesson we had to stay in walk and trot, but we were working mainly on him working down from his whithers instead of from his neck. He currently works on a false contact (only bends his neck) but during the lesson this improved, he seems to be a quick learner. If you watch the video my RI explains it alot better than I do - her commentary is actually very informative.

Please no crit on my riding...I know where my faults lie, I have an RI to tell me them. lol!

Some photos...

I can't wait to do a bit more schooling with him and see how he progresses!

Thank you for reading :D

Sorry to hear you had such an awful start with him. You both look very good now - he looks very handsome and I am sure you will both have lots of fun together. :):):)

Thank you :D - He hasn't put a foot wrong ridden-wise yet *touches wood*

We still have a lot of issues to deal with probably steming from his accident...but it seems that in the ridden work it hasn't really effected him (though I haven't even cantered him yet). It is just the doing things on the ground that sometimes he can be a bit iffy.

He's only a baby though, so have lots of time :)

glad to hear that all is well now (accident wise) have never known any other horses do this apart from when my friends was being towed by the yard owner she managed to get her front legs over the bar at the front of the trailer (equitrek). but she just got pushed back over it.
you look like a good partnership

I remember your last post about how rough a time he had in the lorry. So glad to see you aboard him, and starting as you mean to go on. Here's to a less stiff Enys soon! (Pretty sure I said it on the last thread, but he is yummy)!

Apparently it happens quite often...most 3.5t horseboxes are designed the same as ours. The animal rescue guy said that his department get called out once a fortnight with the same thing having happened. We were lucky as sometimes the horse panics so badly that there is nothing that can be done.

Here is a picture of Enys in his new tack:

You can see around his hip area where the partition in the horsebox was...ouch but all healing nicely now. :o

(the photo makes his conformation look awful...but it's not :) ) Also measured him today and he is 15.1hh

I really like him, seems a nice sort and has nice paces :)
You seem to be working on the same things I'm working on with my pony.

Look forward to hearing more about your progress

You didn't get him from Clipclop Traders by any chance did you? Only they had one very similar in size and markings for sale not long ago!

Either way he is very nice, all the best with him!

He looks very sweet, good luck with him. It's hard to believe Bruce was that colour when we first got him!! xoxo

NO NO NO! Don't say that...he's staying iron grey :D. How old is your boy now?

KVH - Yes he is from Clip Clop. He was called Worzel, but we decided to change his name.

Kokopelli - i've read your posts...by the sounds of things we have gone through similar things in the last six months. I lost two horses last year, my beautiful 7 year old Ettie, and a project horse that I had only owned a month (who got grass sickness). My confidence was in tatters and then during my search for a new horse, I had the perfect horse fail its vetting, then another horse the owners wouldn't get in contact. I finally found Enys and he ended up in a life/death situation moments after I had bought him. We have both ended up with project horses :)

I watched your lesson video, it is interesting hearing your instructor saying the same things as mine :D. Best of luck with Andy.

I'm glad you find a lovely horse to help you through the tough time you had. :) It is funny they said very similar things, lets hope the progress well, best of luck with him! :)
