As per title, looking for a good UA venue to take a horse who can lack confidence at times.
Looking for our first event to go to in Sept is possible .. don't want to travel too far, but consider the counties in title. Well built, safe course and friendly and supportive as will probably be on my own.

What happens with walking the course ? Quite a newbie here ... any advice welcome

I don't know about the course (likely to be well under height!) but Lyford Stud in Oxon is incredibly friendly and they have a hunter trial in September.

it’s all a bit disrupted due to COVID. The BE venues probably have better built and more consistent courses but I find some of them a bit bolder than unaff courses (although in unaff courses you get some combos that you’d never get in the equivalent BE class!).

pacesham and munstead have stuff coming up. Possibly also snowball farm, tweseldown but not seen any advertised. Pony clubs tend to run a few too. There’s a facebook page too search hunter trials and you should find it.

Lyford for tiny jumps to about 80cm, very friendly & low-key. Elmwod a bit more professional but unaffiliated 70cm upwards Rein & Shine ( near Cricklade) somewhere between Lyford & Elmwood, Deer Park Cross Country, Near Cheltenham. Have a look at 'Horse Events' they cover a lot of venues in the South
