So, today I took Gigi to our first ODE, her first for at least a year and my first for about 6 years!
Scored a fairly respectable 46.4 in the dressage. She could have gone better, but I've only had time to practise twice, and she was tense and excited being at a party. Anyway, that put us in 5th place, so I was fairly chuffed!
We then went on to the show jumping, where there were lots of scary fillers (apparently). She refused and knocked down the second fence, and was hesitant at the rest, but flew them (literally with some of them) with a bit of encouragement.
After walking the cross county course, I was feeling fairly nervous, as there were a few asks, one being a house down a uneven bank both sides with no strides either side, and a trekaner (sp?), which although not overly scary, we haven't practised ditches before.
Luckily it was only 2'6", so with me not being competition fit, we trotted a lot, even walked in places! Lol
She hesitated at most of the jumps, but again with some encouragement popped them all. We definitely didn't earn any points for style, but we got round, (safely and happily which was the main aim) and went clear.
I was feeling pretty pleased with myself, as I knew I was lying in 2nd or 3rd after the SJing. However, there was a red flag that was marked on the map that we were meant to go round, which we didn't. Neither did 11 other competitors, so 12 out of 20 of us got eliminated because of it; rather annpyingly! So I definitely learnt a valuable lesson today! Always walk the course properly, and check for tiny little dots for red flags on the map! Doh!
All in all, I am ECSTATIC with Gigi today, she preformed amazingly and really boosted my confidence! Hopefully with a few more outings, she will start going clear SJing, and have no worries in the XC!
I love that mare
