I have my first ODE next month (still waiting to hear about transport but am entering anyway as don't want to leave it too late).
I want to make sure that i have everything i need and don't forget anything so what do i need for a ODE?
I know it may be a silly question but this is my first one and someone reminded me the other day i need a medical arm band (need to go shopping) so i don't want to end up not having something i need on the day.

the way i try and remember is to mentally get myself and the horse ready and check off items as i go!

for me:
jacket
shirt
stock & stock pin/tie
breeches
long boots (or boots and chaps)
hat (no fixed peak for xc)
gloves
hairnet (a must if you have long hair like me!)
spurs (if needed)
jumping crop
xc shirt
xc hat silk
body protector
medical arm band..

for horse:
bridle (you may have a different bit for each phase)
saddle inc stirrups (!)
girth
saddle cloth
boots for SJ
boots for XC
breastplate/martingale for jumping (if needed)
studs
overgirth for XC (if you have one)
grooming kit

other:
plenty of water
2x water buckets (one for washing off, one for drinking)
sponge and scraper
plenty of hay
first aid kit for horse and human
some form of ice gel/clay for legs after xc
fly spray if summer time
water and food for rider and any helpers!

i think thats most things covered!! good luck - its great fun :)

the only thing I'd add to AandK's post is a bit of cash and or a cheque book for starting fees and other food or photos on the day!

spare plaiting kit in case he takes the plaits out on the way there!
maybe a fleece/sheet/cooler in case its cold/windy, also doubles as picnic blanket!
spare horse shoes in case you loose one and need it replacing by on site farrier (ask your farrier for the set that come off last, most are happy to oblige if you explain why)
baby wipes, useful for all sorts of things, wiping horse's eyes/nose/mouth, last wipe over of boots before dressage, etc.

My list is similar to AandK, just with a number bib on it - if a BE event.

Number bibs and medical armbands are available from BE or BHS websites.

Enjoy your event!
