So its my first riding lesson in 5 years tomorrow afternoon and im totally terrified!

Im coming up blanks with what to wear (my old jods are about 3 sizes too small and ive only got leggings..is that okay? its going to be boiling, is it okay to wear a tshirt?) , what to say, what to do, how to mount, how to dismount, what the hell is a girth??? should i sellotape myself to the nectstrap, how to go , how to stop , will the pony hate me, im going to be crap of course he will, what if the instructor thinks im a moron..probably will....what if i fall off, oh god what if i fall off........AAAARRRGHHHH!

I was less nervous when my waters broke and faced labour!! i realise why ive been putting this off for so long!!!!!!!!

You will love it, I'm having lessons now for the first time (riding at all!!) in 5 years, and I was really surprised when my instructor (who is brilliant) had some really positive things to say to me :D good luck! Enjoy :D

B.R.E.A.T.H!!! You need to take a chill pill oh Pink one. You'll be fine. You know one end from the other, that's a good start. Tell your instructor that you are a tad nervous and come up with a plan. What do you want to get out of the lesson? Work towards that and you'll find this will stop you worrying.
Good luck your pinkness

Oooh, good luck. I bet you'll be great.

I hope that you will report back. It'll be encouraging as I'm going to be having lessons again soon after a break ( a lot longer than 5 years  ) but the riding school I want to go to is a way off from where I live and I'm waiting for new wheels.

Lol, thanks. OH keeps telling me to calm down but i know i'll get there and have a complete blank moment like the last time i sat on a horse..

"now check the girth and tighten it....''

"the what?" (ive known what a bloody girth is since i was 4 !!!!!!!!!!!!)

I think my nerves are because the last time i got back on, after a longer break, it was dismal. i was totally overhorsed and had no muscles to tell her to do anything! but it did all come back rather quickly after a week of john wayne legs and it became fun again...

by the way millreef, check the avatar <<<< see why im the pink pony. (shes gorge but im too scared to post a pic of her yet as its not the best one of her eyeing up her owner with full tack on the lunge and you can tell shes thinking WTF is going on!!!"

no, its a really bad one at a funny angle (i didnt take it) and you just know someone on here will say something mean and i'll get cross!!!

plus i dont actually know how to upload pictures onto HHO.

I had my first dressage lesson in about 20 years last thursday on my newer boy, so i know the fear. But...................I LOVED IT and i mean really loved it. Things just clicked and he responded immediately, we had a couple of tantrums when he tired out but worked through it and my instructor really gave me the confidence to push him and take control. He is a big lad and I'm only little. I can't wait for the next one on saturday :D

Good luck and relax, breathing really helps, the horse and you!!!! Update us on how you get on. :D

A little advice from an instructor - dont panic!!! instructors are there to help... if you're nervous then tell them. if you want help ask and if it's a good instructor then they will help you with everything from finding your horse and your tack to getting on and getting going etc. Just remember - you're paying them to be helpful so if all you want to do on your first lesson is walk around the school for half an hour then that's your call!! Good luck and enjoy. Remember to take a deep breath once you're on and you'll be fine!
