What do you expect from a lesson with a new instructor?

Would you expect them to ride the horse or lunge the horse?

Do you use an instructor for riding tuition only or for other things, such as helping teach you lunge, help with behavioural issues etc?

I am getting a new instructor and speakling over the phone she has asked if I am okay with her lunging him/freeschooling for 30mins with me watching, she says to teach me how to get the best from him as one of my complaints is that he does not move or muscle up properly (ive never lunged him before!)

Is this common practice?

Ultimatley I want a one hour a week schooling session but for now does this sound right?

thanks

personally i would want a new instructor to at least have a ten fifteen minute shot on the horse just as they cant really tell you what you need to do or are doing wrong without sitting on the horse and i dont see anything wrong with lunging but i would say half an hour spent on a circles a bit much twenty minutes at max

I think that this sounds a good plan as you have said that he does not move properly and is not correctly muscled. Personally i like an instructor who will ride your horse as I think they can then feel what you feel so help you more. This can also help with schooling your horse! Ultimately YOU are paying so you can ask for what help you need. Have fun!
