First day went very well!

Mainly partridge but did a pheasant drive first thing (Hanging Wood) just as a 'shake up' whilst we had the home team guns and not a sold day team. Went well, wind wasn't really the right direction but hey ho.

Very nice to see everyone again - and all the nutty dogs!

I had Kensa & Ellie out this morning for Hanging Wood, Garage Drive & Bosworgey. Both very well behaved, even if Ellie was ever so slightly 'selectively deaf' at times!

Here are a few pics...

Now this is NAUGHTY. First pick of the day by Ellie and Kensa thought about trying to sneak it off her! I don't think she actually would have but nevertheless, bad Kensa!

Little drinkies, as you do! Home brew Sloe Gin & Gooseberry Gin. YUM!

Lee, Dad's other Underkeeper with Freddie. Freddie used to belong to Spot_The_Risk on here but is now with Lee and doing really well, everyone on the shoot loves him already...

Jake came out with Kensa this afternoon. We did Windmill Field, 20 acre & Teagles. I was so nervous about taking Jake out if i'm honest - i've worked so hard with him this summer but was worried all the hard graft would go out the window with the excitement but bless his heart he was wonderful! Listened to me non-stop, had some beautiful retrieves and didn't give one excitable squeak!! love him so much

The SHEEP!! Jake hates sheep! Can't figure out if he's scared or what his problem but he spent at least 5 mins growling at them when they were this close!!

That is all, for now!!:p

Hope you enjoyed! I'm sat at home in my PJ's now, wine in hand and chocolate ready to be devoured! Perfect day! :D:D:D

He he - Freddie! That was so the right decision to get him back in a working home, he just didn't have enough to do with us, the pics are great, you must have been roasting today though! Jason was out walking up the birds a couple of days ago, first shoot 16th October!

We love Freddie Monster! Lee is so pleased with him :D:D:D

Yes it was boiling - far too hot for coats but rather that than feathers and all sorts stuck to me tweeds!!!;)

No, no, no  Jake is MY best boy  :p :D He is looking gorgeous! Wish I'd been out today, it was warm enough that I might have had control after an hour or so :D

Loving the 'Sole Gin' ;) :D :D

WELL if you sort it out lady and get down here you can finally meet your best boy! And i get a real life Otto squish!

I know - do you think she re-uses her bottles as i remember someone commenting last year of the SOLE GIN ... tastes good let me tell you!!

I'm so proud of Mr Jake. He's just such a fighter and he loves life now. Makes me feel a bit sick thinking about him as the dog he was before :(

Once you've drank enough I doubt you notice :D

Hmmm, I will have to sort something out, dam my moving even further away!!

Jake is transformed! It's fab, he doesn't look like a racing snake anymore! Both the boys must have just hit their growing up mark as someone commented on what a big dog Otto was the other day, and I looked at him and though Jeez, he's massive! :D He's just had to have a new thermatex as he's a large now! :D

Large?! Hehe - Jake is still in his 22" coat but has filled out and muscled up loads. The racing snake days are no more!! Yay! I think he's grown into his tail a bit now too  that is the next thing on my list of things to sort. ripped slightly today but being partridge it's more hooning across fields rather than thick cover so...still home to the 'tail dipped in Hibiscrub' routine!!!

Otto rules, LOVE him :D

Oh yes, LARGE! It used to belong to the IWS!! I'm starting to think his mother really was frightened by a Munsterlander! She was tiny so no idea how she popped out such a thug! :D

The best thing for Ott's tail was something called Cothivet, he hated having it on though, stinks to high heaven!! He's not had a raw patch on it in ages, gets a little knock occasionally but it heals up super quick, dunno why mind! I'm sure it'll come back with avengence through the winter though!

Jake is beautiful: no squeaks-was he very vocal before? He's super handsome. Is there a thread on Jake's history? I keep seeing these gorgeous Springers and don't know their stories. (Any excuse to look at more pics!)

How old is Poppy-puppy? (I'm just wondering if/at what age to start doing exciting stuff with the pups who are now 4 months old. Currently, they get walks and lots of play/training in the garden)

How do I go about finding a shoot? I don't necessarily want to train the boys as gun dogs but I'd love to attend a shoot or two.

Sloe gin-PMSL! Must crop the sloes at the yard once the first frost has been.

This will give you the general idea as to why i've got Jake... basically unwanted and would have ended up with a bullet, unfortunately. Luckily we found each other in time :)

Do you know of any shoots in your area??

I am slightly addicted to Sloe Gin! :D:D Tis ansome!!

Jake was really quite vocal towards the end of last season - only when chasing a runner. Would scream like a beagle! Not acceptable to say the least!!!!

Ahhhhhh! I love, love, love looking at your pictures! Looks like a fabulous day. Can I have Kensa? Please, please, please? Jake is the cutest, I love his little face, sounds like he was an absolute star :D:D

Thanks! The rest of AAD have you to blame for the continuous shooting pics from now on LOL

You can borrow her but i must have her back!! She's very precious! :)

Fab! More scrummy pics!

How did you stop the vocal behaviour? The creatures are quite vocal, especially Mr Naughty (Zak) who does those huge loud whiny yawns. The pair of them will sit and whine if left, not for long and they both bark! Brig has never really barked so I'm a little freaked!

No pics-swizz! Now I'm panicked-ours are undocked! I have hilarious visions of purple vet wrapped tails (it's the only colour I have!)

LOL purple?! Has to be pink!!

I will have a good look through pics soon and get some before and after shots of Jake but this is one that was taken not long after i had him i think... you can't really see but his ribs and spine were so pronounced. Took around 12 or even 14 months to get him to a stable weight, as he is now.

Also, as you can see by the look on his face, he was literally petrified by anything and everything :(

Bless, he looks like he's expecting a hand to come and smack him! Poor baby! I'm loving the big fluffy full tail, got it all to look forward to!

I only have purple for the horse, rugs, water bucket, vetwrap, pretty much everything! I'm so sad that my fave jods are purple and my fave sweatshirt! I used to have boots to match but it was all a bit too much, TBH.

looks fab :D so jealous!! not managed to get out yet - local shoot where we normally beat has only a third of the number of days as last year - and only 4 sats throughout the whole season :( so i'm desparatly trying to find other places to go =- but then sats = hunting - choices choices!!!

Looks like a fab day, gorgeous dogs doing what they love :) and what weather!

Not surprised they were fighting over that 1st bird, looks like a runner lol :D

Well i've now been informed that mine and the boys services will not be required this season on shoot we went on last year as they have enough beaters dogs :( Funny the attitude last year was the more the merier (it is run by my ex's mother )

Ho hum, fingers crossed we can still go on other local one so all our prep hasn't been in vain :)

Am I allowed to ask what the bag was?

I was invited, a fortnight ago, for an early day at partridges. I wasn't really looking forward to it, as they generally don't fly that well early on, but with decent undulating ground, and a good stiff breeze we had ninety two and a half brace. (185).

Birds flew really well, and the last drive, off stubble was as good as one could wish for. Thankfully, everyone was selective, and only shot those birds which were worth it. An all round excellent day.

Alec.

p_h - oh that makes perfect sense then!! Hope you manage to get out. Difficult choice though between that and hunting. Just have to do a bit of both :D

Mollichop - First bird was defo a runner and a strong one at that. Trust the Ellie spangle, she doesn't miss a trick bless her :D

Yes, of course! We ended up with 227 Partridge and 24 Pheasants.

Our flew really well too, much to the surprise of my Dad (Headkeeper). I can't stand it when we have a team of guns who blast away at anything or anything! I WILL also mention, quite loudly, to anyone shooting at low birds and will ask them to kindly place their gun in the slip for the rest of the drive. Safety first - we can always find them another bird but not another Beater

People who bash away at low birds are, IMHO, murdering idiots, there is no skill and i don't see it as a sport!:D
