Hi

we have ouR first show on Monday! I'm very excited and nervous. It's only a low key thing at a local riding school, don't have to get dressed up or anything.

It's combined training. Only a walk trot test.

Anyway, my mare HAS to stop to go for a poo, no matter where we are or what we're doing. And she goes A LOT! Like 3 times in a half hour schooling session! I just can't seem to keep her going.

This is going to be really embarrasing in the dressage test isn't it!

Any ideas? has anyone else got this problem or is it just me!?

I was always told that this is a sign of stiffness in their backs, but not sure how true this really is. Best to ask your instructor I guess.

My lad won't stop for a poo, leading to him always having green socks! eewwww...

Her nerves maybe? 3 times in 1/2 hour is a lot... does she get tense schooling? Agree with jenhunt abt asking someone who knows the horse...

Edited to say: have fun at the show!

TDDT she doesn't need to stop for a poo lol! She's trying to convince you she does, but she doesn't. Wake her up and give her a surprise next time she stops for a poo. Have a friend walk behind you in the school with the yard broom to remind her of the toileting rules if necessary. Or get an old soft piece of rope and use it as a "Wip Wop" flopping it from side to side across her withers as you apply strong strong legs and growl at her to walk on. Or immediately you feel her stop, turn her briskly and kick her on. Just surprise her! Mind you if she's a bucker or rearer, take all sensible precautions lol x

We have the same thing with one at our yard, he does it in the middle of his shows (when he's just thrown his olympia ticket away its a big deal!) We have found that we tack him up in plenty of time and walk him around encouraging him to do the poops before his class - ok so that bit works but when championship is immediately after we now have another problem.
