Took my 2 year old, River to his first party yesterday to do a youngstock class. He travelled like a pro considering he hasn't been travelled before and took the new scenary in his stride. Thought we had loads of time before the class but only a little bit after the class before had been called they were calling ours! Que lots of rushed preparations with me getting changed and River having his bridle put on and his feet painted by the other girls!
Got there with a bit of time to spare really. There was meant to be 8 in the class but in the end there was only 3 of us. River got very strong and boucy and lept about alot! Considering he is normally a complete dope this was very annoying! I hadn't spent enough time leading off the bit to be confident enough to put the rope on it but I wish I had! My arm is killing.
He fidgeted a bit in the line up but not as much as I thought he would! Brought him out to stand up for the judge which he did well but the trot up was a disaster! For some reason I ended up on the inside instead of the outside and when I tried to trot him he decided canter would be more fun! Anyway finally managed some decent trot along the back but of course I was leading on that side! Damn it!
Anyway we got placed second which is better than last and passed that milestone of first party! I was very proud of his behaviour and of how great my homebred baby looks even if I say so myself
For anyone that doesn't know River is by the TB stallion Special Addition and out of my unregistered Welsh D mare.
