Some of you may know I was planning to take my 'young' lad to a show this weekend- first time in years and years, apart from taking daughter in lead-rein....had a few plaiting traumas, sorted that out .....took him in in-hand veteran and came second!!

Well chuffed..apparantly if he hadnt been a bit frisky and barged the judge whilst she was trying to give him the once over, she would have given him first!! She marked him down on his manners as he was old enough to know better at 21....she made a comment that he was 'hot to trot' - and I thought that suited him as a show-off - so thats now his show-name!! Got a gorgeous photo, got it on my desk here at work - keep admiring it....

So now I may attempt a ridden veteran class.

....so got a few questions if anyone can help...I always ride him in a loose-ring snaffle with a revolver and he goes great in it- do I have to use a double- bridle? - although its only local-level the judges tend to get a bit above-and- beyond sometimes...hes only got a small arab mouth so what bits are best??

I have a lovely brown-leather straight cut saddle- do I wear this without a saddle cloth?

Cheers - I just had to tell people- hubby is getting a bit bored of it now, daughter is miffed cos she got a 4th, and work-mates are not at all horsey and are smiling politely, but I think i may have to stop thrusting photo in peoples facea now!!

Well done, took my 16 year old in hand earlier this year and he nearly ran me down (sideways), the judge commented that he had a tiger in his belly - embaressing at his age!

Saddle is best with nothing under it, or an unobtrusive numnah, you may find a working hunter shape fits best, mine is from Nutack and is a good shape. Bit I don't know, try here though... http://www.veteran-horse-society.co.uk/

Good luck for the rest of the season!

Well done you!

My horse went broncing around the dressage arena before the judge rang the bell on saturday .... someone asked me afterwards if he was a youngster. Had to admit horse is 15 and probably ought to know better!
