So many of you might not know but Torin and I moved to a new yard in between christmas and new year. We've only been there just over a month and already I notice a huge difference in us both. Its a bit more of a 'professional' set up, the schools bigger and we have a full set of showjumps.......there's even a hot shower! Yay for no more waiting on kettles to boil!!! In general the yards just a much nicer place to be around which leads us onto our first show....Team showjumping.
After being told for weeks we were jumping round the 1m and training like we were aiming for badders (new yo knows how to get the best out of big T and I) we discovered on receiving our times for the day that actually it was only the 85...sighs of relief all round. Not that jumping round a course of 1m is out of our reach, which it isnt, Torin hadnt actually been out sj specifically in well over a year and he has a tendency to scare himself.
Things started to go down the drain when tacking up the steward came and told us our team were next to go, poor T had only just enough time to stop bouncing his way round the warm up and pop a couple fences before we were in and away. All went fine up until the double, a long one stride off a really horrible corner, I just couldnt get him forward enough in time and he ducked out the second part. Re-presented, had a much better shot in and the little ****** ducked out a second time, we then had a v strong discussion about it and thankfully he played ball and finished the course with only a couple more fences down.
Time for a breather and to calm down before we tacked back up to go in for the second round which was to be ridden as a JO with the double being the last 2 fences
Much better warm up and I actually had him where I needed him, going forward and coming back when needed, got in the ring and apart from a couple poles and a duck out when I was too ambitious of taking on a fence at an angle off a turn we made it round in far greater fashion than the first round.....we even had no bother with the double.
So no team placings for us this time but there is already talk of our next sj outing and also mention of some Team Quest and arena eventing!
So far I'm feeling the move has been a change for the better!
