We attended our first show on grass over the weekend ( only Mabels second show too ).

I have entered Equifest in August so thought we best get some experience in between now and then , in for a penny and all of that ....

She behaved impeccably , i parked the trailer in a bit of a jack-knife position on purpose so we had a large shaded area to wait between our two classes - one inhand in the AM and a ridden in the PM.

She placed 1st and 4th, decided in the championship for ridden we would spook at everything , buck into canter and then get disunited in canter so that took us out of the runnings. It was a long day, warm and her first experience so overall I'm very pleased.

We just need to keep practicing and working on our canter leads , It's just so lovely to be at this point having backed her and done all the work along the way.

She's always a champion in my eyes (even when shes got her naughty head on  😆

Well done you both look lovely 😍

Try and find some nice flat fields near you and school in them it really helps them get used to it.

Equifest is a lovely show but it is busy and buzzy so definitely keep going out and get her used to it all.

Are you staying over?

Thank you very much :)

We are really lucky and have a field at the end of the yard that will be ideal for this, my mum suggested this also as weve become quite reliant on the school and its fence to assist us

I have competed at equifest with my previous mare - although this was when it was at Peterborough so shall be different this year in its new home. So do have some idea of what I am getting myself into 😄

No we only live 20 mins away from the new venue so shall be travelling up each day which is ideal for Mabel as she takes a while to settle into a new stable

That sounds ideal then it does help if you can practice on grass.

Oh really how sad its been a showground for so many years I used go years ago when ponies UK was there.

I believe the chap who originally gifted the land specifically requested it did not end up being sold for housing but this seems to have forgotten about.

It's a real shame as it was a lovely venue - arena UK doesn't have as much space so will be interesting to see how it all runs (Selfishly I'm just happy it's still fairly local for us !!)
