My friend has asked if I would like to go Cubbing with her. Never hunted or cubbed or anything before so not sure what to expect! Not even sure what happens! My pony has hunted with old owners and is fab so no probs there, but what to wear/take/expect please!
Also any rules etc that I should be aware of and so on..thanks in advance :)

Wear a hacking jacket with coloured stock or tie, beige jods and clean boots, tuck your hat ribbons up (most importantly don't forget your hip flask ;)) Clean pony and tack and turn up in plenty of time. Make yourself known to the secretary to pay your cap and find out who the Field Master is (if there is one) so you know who to follow :)

No idea where you are hunting but I suspect it will be quite slow with optional jumping.

Be aware of the hounds and never let your horse face away from them when they are passing, always get out of the way for any hunt staff.

But most importantly.............ENJOY :) :)

hacking jacket and shirt and tie for cubbing. hairnet and comfey hat be it a velvet with ribbons up or a skull with cover. keep your numnahs and girth brown black or leather, not etiquette for a hip flask but hey ho! keep your pony's bum away from hounds, make sure you pay your cap!! clean and tidy, not plaited. try to stay in control!! always useful, and always give way to hounds and hunt staff!!! you will love it, most jumps are optional. have fun. get to meet half hour early and get on board, as they move off on time when cubbing. have fun

I wouldn't take a hip flask this early in the season, you don't want to acquire the reputation of being a hardened alky!

Get OS maps and make sure you know where hounds are meeting, how long it will take to get there etc etc.

If you can beg, steal and borrow a hunting whip it will come in useful for keeping hounds away from your horse's heels, opening gates etc etc.

Don't listen to Combat_Caire, take a flask, and if you are pretty, female and competent you will make a lot of new friends, if you are male, watch hounds, not the talent! Sorry, Claire, just a bit of fun!

So Combat_Claire was offered a drink, which just proves my point, competant and attractive. Traditionally, the best place to make new friends of the opposite sex, as usually the OH is at home!
