Hi

Everything will be fine out the first time Hunting, your horse does'nt really know what's going on the first time so all will be good. Just sit there and relax if there is jumping you dont have to do it and everyone looks after you out in the field.

Enjoy its whilst it lasts. :)

Try to start off at the back with the slower horses until you know what your horses reaction will be. You can always move up into the middle of the field if you feel ready for galloping in a big group but if they all take off and you suddenly realise its a horrible idea to be going flat out across a muddy field amid 60 other horses then its too late to change your mind.

My other bit of advice would be that even if your horse is going at least five times as fast as it normally would don't be tempted to get into a pulling match. They'll be excited, you'll lose and probably annoy them in the process. let them go with the flow and run with the other horses and you'll both have a lot more fun.

Ooooh.... you must post a report after! I've been thinking of having a go at hunting (never done it before) with my mare (no idea if she has or not, she's good with dogs though!) but neither of us are fit enough at the moment. :(

Kingdom Draghounds is who I was thinking of contacting when I feel we'd be up to it, I'd be really interested to hear what it's like and how you get on. :) Have fun!

The Wilton Hunt had their Opening Meet this year not far from our yard. I contacted the Secretary and asked if it were possible for some of the livery owners on our yard to hack down just for the Meet. We quickly received an invitation to attend!
We were very warmly welcomed at the Meet. All the livery owners had dressed up and their gleaming mounts behaved very well. Those who had never attended a hunt before certainly feel more confident in following on next time.
It was an excellent introduction to hunting for those who had never tried it before.

Is this the Sec D I'm thinking of? the rather large orange one? If so I'm incredibly jealous, he'll be amazing to hunt..!

Let me know how you get on - I'm taking the pink one out with our local pack soon so would love to know how you get on!

Hi L,
I imagine its the same horse - Jorge? lol Although after having Cruise J seems tiny - like a big section b :)

Well an update to the above post is that i never made it out thanks to my own horse ovb feeling left out decided to have a fight with a gate and lost. Both back legs torn to bits cue emergency vet, suspected fractured splint bone :(
Xrayed next day though and no break so lots of bandaging and box rest and he should be ok.
Might try and go this weekend tho - will keep you all updated
