I havent been hunting before, but i was hoping to go this year. I live in Kent, so is there a hunt near me and how do i find one and join.
Would i be able to wear a grey/blue hacking jacket, a white shirt and navy tie, cream jods and gaiters with jod boots?
Also, would you have to jump all the jumps, or can you sometimes go around them because my horse has not hunted before and I dont think he will be confident enough to do all the jumps.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum.I cannot help as far as your local hunt goes but as far as dress code it all seems fine. The only thing i would change is the tie for a stock.Good luck when you go hunting for the first time.

I'd stick to the shirt and tie!!

You can nearly always get around what you don't want to jump, theres always someone else in the same boat!

Look on the MFHA website.

Whereabouts in Kent are you? I hunt with the Old Surrey Burstow & West Kent, and always have a great time :) You can nearly always get around the jumps if you don't wish to jump them as Clodagh says - however if its just his confidence you're worried about most horses become a lot braver on the hunting field!! Look at http://www.mfha.co.uk/hunts/old_surrey_burstow_and_west_kent_hunt.html

Thanks for the link. Yes he is not a very confident jumper, and i was worried about over fazing him. Thanks for the help. How high are the jumps generally or what is the range?

thanks jess xx

I would say most of the fences are about 2ft6 - 2ft9, some are smaller, some are bigger, but the kind you jump most regularly are about that.. it also depends on the day you bring him out - there are days with lots of hedges, but then there are days when you barely jump a twig!! Best thing to do is ask the secretary about the particular meets which would be suitable if you are really worried about the jumping - or pm me I'll always try and help :) Whereabouts are you in Kent and I'll try and think of the best area to start you on?
