Hunting for the first time tomorrow, on my lovely little cob. Well not mine but one i ride ! after being told to be smart, jacket stock etc, and being told to wear whatever as its a Wednesday and doesn't matter, i have decided to go smart. Horse is bathed, tack and boots cleaned,so i think we are ready ! Pointless post, but very excited ! :D

How did it go?
I went on my first hunt in about 15 years today on my youngster! I have only done drag hunting before so wasnt used to the slow start and standing around within minutes! It was soooo cold though, i wore the correct gear and was frozen, others wore thick winter jackets and water proofs! will know for next time!

it was great ! i did the same, correct turn out, and froze ! only 4 people so very quiet for him ! in a way that was great, but we had to keep up as we would of got lost otherwise ! He didnt enjoy the waiting either, first time he has ever bucked or reared, kept reversing into the whips horse so i felt a bit stupid ! have got a pic on facebook, but dont know how to put it on !

Oooh i wish we only had 4! there were 26 on ours! My horsey was a little naughty, half rear etc better once we kept moving abit. We eventually lost the hunt, but i was glad to hack back to the lorry to warm up!

don't worry, it does do them good, and as long as he starts to improve in the next few outings he'll get there. Just be warned that he may be worse next time as he'll think he knows what's going on :)

did he settle quickly once you got home or, even better, on the way home? or did he keep hunting in his head?

every one has said he may be worse next time ! he was fine coming home, but he was shattered, couldnt keep his eyes open back at the yard. He did get excited a few hours after, i turned him out to have a roll, not realizing the hunt would ride through the farm, past his field on their way back ! Had to get him in, he wanted to go again ! He was a bit of a pain today, first day he has been out since, and thought everything was a race, and pawing at the ground ! settled after a bit though, hes too lazy to mess around too much over nothing ! :)
