So today I managed to fall off my new horse. Ouch! She decided to play buckaroo with me.
She has been a bit 'iffy' to get on since I got her. Today is only actually the 3rd time I've ridden her since I got her as she's only been with me for 2 weeks.
When mounting she will shoot forward and feel as if she is going to buck. She hasn't bucked with me when getting on but did when my sister got on from the floor. I have used a block both times.
I am aware this is pointing to possibly a back issue or ill fitting tack. Hopefully it's just the saddle and nothing too serious or psychological as it could take a long time to overcome!!
The fall happened when cantering. We'd already done a quick warm up, walked and trotted on each rein, cantered on the left rein with no problems. Changed reins to have a quick canter before finishing. At this point I had noticed that the saddle has slipped slightly forward. After asking for the right canter she proceeded to get quicker and quicker and then I saw it coming. Her head went down and 5 or 6 huge bucks followed! I managed to sit until she impressively got her saddle up on to her shoulders and it tipped me off!!

Looks like we'll be going back to basics with lunging for a couple of weeks until pay day when I can get back and saddle people out!! Slightly frustrating and my right arm is getting stiffer and stiffer but fingers crossed the big ponio is okay. :)

If the saddle's slipping it does sound like it could use a check!

Never mind, at least you have an idea where to start to fix the issue and move on. Take it there's no damage to yourself?
