First venture into the showing world-what to do?!

My friend is entering her first WHP show on Sunday, and because her horse is mainly an eventer we're rather clueless about the showing set-up

any tips on what she should be wearing, horse should wear, and what they'll have to do for the individual show?

Hacking jacket/shirt/tie/brown gloves and cane for rider. Beige jods and long black boots.

Plain brown tack for horse if poss...either no numnah or a small one that matches horse/tack.

Usually have to do a short show of WTC both reins and pop a fence.

Some judges have a ride...and sometimes conformation is checked so that means taking tack off and running up in-hand so she may need a groom to help out.

Just watch what everyone else does, and have fun mainly.

She should wear a velvet hat (ie no show jumping hats with the strip down the front). A tweed jacket, shirt and tie (go for coloured shirt and eye catching tie), brown or dark gloves. Canary, cream or beige jods. Long leather boots or jods boots with clip if she is young. Pony should be in plain tack (no sparkly brow bands), plaited unless M&M. Black/brown boots on pony - removed for show.

Jumping round should be CLEAR ideally but smooth & stylish in a nice rhythm.

Show - judge will ask her to walk away in a straight line, turn a nice wide circle (u turn) then trot straight back at judge, on past then start her show. Usually you do a figure of 8, cantering on round bits ie top and bottom of 8, then extend down one side at end. Do not gallop uncontrolably, a few strides of extension is OK. Always stop and salute the judge at the end.

pony is a Connie so will be going unplaited but has a pulled tail
tack wise, is a flash and martingale allowed for the jumping phase?

This is the turnout we use for WHP classes:

Martingales and flashes are allowed.

Is it a Mountain & Moorland WHP class? If not, and your Connie's mane is short enough to plait, it would probably be best to plait if the tail is pulled as well. The judge may not actually realise it is a pure-bred Connie and wonder why you haven't plaited!
