Well, it has been an interesting first week with my new big boy, Drako.........he has an over-reach cut on front right fore and is starting what looks like mud fever on the same right fore heel bulb, and both back heels - cue being brought into the quarantine shed, feet soaked and creamed and having to stay in (during which he was an absolute angel)........He spooked at some cows when daughter was riding him to field, turned tail and cantered off with her  She thought it was 'great fun' huh! I led him past said cows with a lot of theatrics on his part - I swear if he could've passed them on my back he would've done the big idiot! Then he spooked when I was putting his bridle on him and careered off with the reins round his neck and the bridle hanging.........I stupidly tried to hold him (instinct never fails does it?) and have two bruised and swollen fingers for my idiocy and the bridle is in having it's brow-band and noseband re-stitched on .......On the plus side, he comes to me in the field and in the barn where he is destined to spend the remainder of his quarantine....he is normally very calm, and a big gentle giant, and just taking a wee while to settle in, bless - definitely is scared of cows but I know he will get used to them. Fingers crossed for blood test on Monday morning - hope it is all clear and he can get into a normal routine at last. Here are a few photos (hope this works lol)

I love his stockings :)

Sounds like he is just settling in. On the first hack I took Barry on, he thought the bike we encountered was going to eat him. I was a bit worried (lots of cyclists round here) but apparently all the other bikes are vegetarians so he's safe ;)

What are you planning on doing with him?

Thanks x

Planning on riding club stuff, hacking etc. Daughter is into jumping, and so will be doing a bit of that, bit of everything really :))

He's a beauty, isn't he?

I used to have a Clydesdale mare who really disliked cattle, she once nearly walked over a car because a bull was looking at her from the other side of the field next to the road we were on and she was always reluctant to pass farmyards - until she came to live at home where there were calves in the next field - she fell in love with the babies and so learned to put up with their mums - and dad! I'm sure your horse will get used to them if he has to pass them every day.

He is lovely, what lovely clean white legs!
He will likely be more prone to mud-fever though because of his pink skin.
As Pearlsasinger says, I wouldn't worry about to cow-phobia, he will get used to them if he comes into regular contact with them.
Good luck and enjoy him!
