Is show weekend ?

so I’m not that fussed about showing but I have dreamt of riding in our small agricultural show for ever. I showed old Peggy Sue in hand 10 years ago and finally get to ride on Saturday. Tali has put on a bit of a grass belly after moving fields and her winter coat is coming through (what heatwave??) but I don’t care. I’m there to make up numbers and have a fun day.

ETA that it’s actually over a week of small shows up here. Some of the smaller isles have their own shows, I’m going to eastmainland show and it finishes up with the ‘big’ county show next Saturday.

there’s show jumping on on Sunday which I’d like to go to but there’s also a show dance so health may be ropey.

picture of Peggy Sue in her younger years at the show. AB438788-D071-42F1-8F43-3607E07B9C86.jpeg

what’s everyone upto?

Very exciting - taking S to Gatcombe for the RoR/NTF eventing championships. Despite growing up just outside of Stroud, I somehow never got the opportunity to ride at either the Gatcombe champs or the spring/autumn events before (not for the want of trying - often entered, never made it!). So very cool to be heading there now, over a decade later, to have our first go at it!

We were qualified in the Novice Restricted (Corinthian Cup) champs too - but there are only 12 entered for the RoR class, and it is over the same XC track, but with bigger SJ and an intermediate dressage test. Slightly bricking it over the bigger SJ, but we have done an IN before, and it shouldn't seem much bigger than the 2*s we've jumped....

Slightly unusual format in that we do dressage Friday, SJ and XC on Saturday, and then the top 10 after the 'normal' event get invited back to SJ again on the Sunday to decide the final placings and prize money. There's £2k to the winner, so not to be sniffed at!

Light hacking as ground so concrete, early tomorrow and Sat.
Sunday have a sj/arena eventing clinic on a good surface. Probably my last till the rains arrive here as I cant put the necessary work in, in between.

A huge bucket of good luck rara, will be watching for updates ?

Hope everyone has a good time whatever you are doing x

Its so tricky isn’t it! I am having to box out for both school use (which means two dressage lessons a week as might as well have a lesson if I’m boxing out) plus canter work. Bog will have been in the trailer 4 times this week.

Nowt! Have a lesson booked this eve but horse is not his usual sprightly idiotic self so we have the vet coming instead for a check up. So probably just a weekend of poo picking, OH says he will follow me about with the tractor bucket so at least i don't have to push wheelbarrows around :p

6 horses is not the lucky number obviously, anyone got a(nother) spare?!

Eagle the ex-racehorse has an RC lesson on Saturday- technical jumping, might be a fraction ambitious when I've jumped him twice, but he's pretty game so I'm sure we'll give it a good go.
Otherwise, Nova is up to 25mins of walk with 2 weeks until his next vet assessment and the foals are in futurity training which is very entertaining at least

It is, neighbours arena is now riding deep so her liveries have stopped using it, even that was in use 4 years ago, but the lack of rain is really kicking in now.
I'm trying to find a decent track hire or gallop that I can repeat hire that is maintained and failing miserably at present. Even Parwood is running deep.....

I am very lucky to have access to gallops from one of the top flat trainers in the UK, so they are meticulous!

But it's a pain re school, the one I've been using has been great but won't be now there's a hose pipe ban

Good luck RF and Rara, sounds like you both have big and exciting weekends ahead!
Have fun everyone else who's going out :)
MP - I hope Q is ok :(

We're off to my trainer's on Friday for a couple of lessons and an overnight stay. There are a few people going so it should be fun as well as educational, and I can't embarrass myself in front of an Olympian this time as she's at the World Champs ?

Chilli blotted his immaculate hacking book last night by spooking then napping as we headed into our local village - it's the first time he's done anything like that on a hack and a reminder that he's still a very teenage 5yo!! Luckily the three cars coming up behind us were all people from my yard, and a van coming the other way kindly stopped and waited. Two of the people from the yard came and led us past the TERRIFYING piece of silver birch bark that had flapped at us. We then happily went past thatching materials, scaffolding, newly dumped builders' bags full of stuff, a skip, other random building material, a scary looking trailer and multiple bikes / cars / dog walkers.

D*ck.

On the plus side, a random man out walking his dogs told me I sit very well on a horse! He hadn't seen the terrible behaviour...

I'm heading up your way tomorrow to spend a week sailing, while Blue has an easy week of hacking and light schooling with one of my friends.

I faceplanted off baby cob yesterday when he did a tiny little spook, but must have hit a rock solid divot and his legs went from under him. Its just like concrete. Visited two friends yesterday both with different arena surfaces and wouldn't have wanted to ride in either. Horses are totally bored of walking everywhere and so am I.

But cracking on with the massage diploma and loving it.

Oh and started my friend's 18 month yo daughter on a dangerous and expensive path by giving her a ride on microcob. Firmly held on by her mum she was shouting 'go,go' at the top of her voice and trying to kick with her legs. Pony does understand 'go,go' so I had a firm hold of the lead rein! Very smiley toddler who absolutely loved it.

Had a nice jump school with our trainer earlier this week which included stadium jumps and cross country jumps in the field next to the school. So that was cool. Some bigger fences, but I don't think he has the desire to be a 1m horse ? he does it, and with good form, but I think playing with the small stuff (80 to 90 cm) brings him more fun. We also have trouble with combinations because a one stride for him is a 2 stride and needs to be ridden exactly so for it to work well. There's no way he could ever make it in one stride, but 2 can be awkward too. But that's sort of the battle on a horse of his size with his stride length.

Switching over to dressage mode today and need to further prepare for next weekends comp. Hopefully a good hack this weekend too.

@j1ffy mine spooked at some birch bark the other day too ?

More of the same for me. Ground work with the 9yo, I have been adding a saddle or roller now and he looks better/happier moving with it on. Had a rescope this morning and the ulcers are gone, so just have to see how he goes now!
More painting the house (bathrooms) on the cards as well, joy...

Taking pal and her cobber out to his 1st comp since Jan 2020.
He got injured, and eventually had surgery on his stifle in Sept 20. Was given a 6-10% chance of coming back to full work.
Has been rehabbing sonce july last year. 6 months walking, and gradually building up from that.

He going to be an absolute d*ck. He loves competitions and going on trailer rides. He's going to so excited he won't be able to contain himself ?.

So chuffed for her.

Had a really good lesson yesterday. Bo's brain fell out of his ear a couple of times over the last week so my Instructor showed me a couple of really good exercises to regain his focus and channel his energy. Also worked on canter transitions. I need to relax and stop over thinking and over riding them!

Hacking tomorrow and Sunday, then we have a bit fitter coming on Monday.

Tuesday I'm going to the seaside for the day! Looking forward to eating fish and chips on the beach!

Ta da! I rung round the local polo yards and have managed to blag the use next week of an arena. Will be space enough for cantering as the min size for arena polo is 300ft x 150ft (theirs is a little bigger as 100 x 50 metres).
If it works out, I can blag once or twice weekly between lots ?

We've booked a course hire and blagged a lift. Haven't cantered in a while now as our arenas are not good with it being so dry and the grass arena no longer has any grass so at the very least we can manage one of those ? can't remember when I last jumped a course, probably 2016 maybe? Don't think horse has been off the yard in a few years either.
We have VERY low expectations.......

For me... Nothing!

But it is for a good reason... We just came back, last night, from camp! So BH is absolutely exhausted and is having 3 days off, then a hack, then a little local dressage.

He really seemed to grow up at camp! Had some Fab dressage lessons, finally tackled proper fillers (and not just to the side as we have been doing) and broke all barriers XC. He was a dream to handle and around the place, tried his socks off the whole time.

Some obligatory photos!

The final photo was lifted off a video. The jump didn't look so big but someone told me it was so I went back next day and measured it.

1.20, including the slope and brush o_O

I wouldn't have jumped it if I'd known! :p

The best thing about those photos is your smile!! You look like you absolutely love riding him. He looks great too, he's really grown up.
