Thistle has very kindly let me try her grackle bridle - the bridle pars of it are fine as its the same as pictured so just tried the noseband on today.

I am a bit worried that it may be a little large. The strap around his mouth is on the tightest hole and the other two each have one hole to go tighter but tbh it probably wasn't tight enough as pictured - quite a bit of slack to do any good.

It is quite new so think it may stretch and i should try a cob?

i went for the all round Tranz Angled 14mm one in the end rode in it today and seems good shall see how we get on schooling on Tuesday

Didn't get a 12mm in the end - quite glad actually as this is very slim and seems to suit well.

Just need to try and find something suitable jumping now.

I have done it up tighter but im worried that if i do it up tight that is just going to leave no room for stretching - does G wear a full size?

Ah good good, hope he likes it!!

Goddy has got the SMALLEST mouth, so the 12mm suits well and stops him leaning. Yes G has a full sized Amerigo, but it is HUGE and has got extra holes punched in!!

Hehe- well i will investigate how much room have for hole punching. Its a lovely bridle which will be handy to have so would like to keep it all as a whole.

the bridle & noseband are both Stubben CTD

Looks fine

but if you're worried about it stretching id try a cob. Hattie wears a cob equiport grackle and that has stretched and it is now done up atleast 2 holes tighter than it used to be done up when i first got it.

I think i will try a cob size just to be sure - he has a strange shaped head i think!! Its pointless him having a grackle if i can not fit it tight enough to be of any use!

Shall just go and see if there is room to punch more holes in if need be

Hi

Sorry to be a pain but thats not a grackle, its a mexican noseband, the difference is the rings at the side, a grackle is made up of two continuous straps of leather which slide through the round 'stopper' on the front of the nose

Although people do often refer to them as a 'Mexican Grackle' its incorrect as they have two different actions

A mexican noseband is also fitted much higher than a grackle.

The way you have it fitted is about right but I would get the next size down as the buckle at the side is not in a good position.......

Can I ask what you are wanting the noseband to do?

Yes i realise it is a "mexican" noseband just called it "grackle" as it is the thing people would associate calling it.

I am trying it out as apposed to having him in a stronger bit.

Eq Fairy. The furry bits are just bits I added, little discs with a slot in that slide over the headpiece of the noseband - I had a horse with bony cheekpieces that rubbed. They can easily be removed.

Fran, I believe you have 1 hole left on the headpiece, there is prob room to punch another if needed.

I would try raising the noseband headpiece by one hole, this will make hardly any difference to the height (half a hole each side) and then reasses as it will be fitting a wider part of his nose so will probably need to loosen the bottom strap by one hole. I would then try to tighten the top strap a bit so you don't have so much of a flappy bit under his mouth.

Take the fluffy bits off if you want to get a better idea of how it sits, they are eas to put back on.

My cob one has much shorther straps round the nose, possibly too short.
