Fit or not??

Ok my mare hari has been off on holiday for just over 2 months. I have been riding her for about 2 weeks first week wasn't so good as she threw a shoe so couldn't ride. But i was just wondering with her not been ridden for over 2 months she would be unfit but i have been working her for half hour every day we are on trot now and im working her well without over doing it she doesn't seen to be sweaty at all after working well.

what is every ones view on this? As i thought she would be sweaty but she isn't.

Has she been turned out/ living out for the 2 months? Think that if they can walk around all day (and night) in a field they won't lose fitness that much in that space of time?!

yes she is out 24/7 just now.

And she does like to exercise herself in the field bucking and squeeling and having a blast bless her

at least once a day she has a mad fit in the field LOL

Honestly I would expect them to be doing walk for about 2-3 weeks before introducing trot. Its not just about the sweat.


Respiration is the key to knowing how fit she is, the fitter she is the quicker her respiration will go back to a normal rate.
Also remember its about all strengthening muscles and tendons to the hard roads/ground.

she doesnt seem to be heavy breathing either.

2-3 weeks walk.

did first week walk and she got pretty bored even doing loops and figure of 8's.

Think she was really really fit befor her rest.

Are you hacking her at all ?? Or is this all been done in a school??

i have just been in the school.

Should i start hacking her out? She is a new horse and i was just getting the feel of her in the school for a bit before i hacked her.

But to be honest she is so so good and i feel i know her pretty well now.
I keep her on a farm of a busy road so its all Field hacking or cross the road to a country road.

I think you should, it would mean she would be less bored when been ridden and would add a bit of variety to her work.

I feel a right numpty

you wouldnt think i had been riding for over 17 years.

Had horses 6 year ago but just hacking n that and before that my ponies when i was wee.

just been back in it for a year so its just a case of refreshing the memory.

Also been a long long time since i had a compatition horse so its kinda newish
