Is there anywhere that exists that will help me a create a fitness plan for a horse returning to work from colic surgery?

Ideally I'd like somewhere/someone who I could discuss progress with to see how we need to further tailor the plan.

Any instructors/trainers/vets I know don't really offer this, and whilst I'm capable of making up a plan myself, it might not be optimum and I also enjoy the being held accountable aspect of regular catch ups.

I'd be talking to my physio. You will need to go slow and do some work to strengthen core muscles, so they'd be best placed to advise I would think.

I'm surprised your vet doesn't advise you. I had a very prescriptive plan emailed by my vets, but that was following lameness treatment. Maybe they don't offer the same for colic surgery?

I hope your horse is recovering well.

I'd also ask vet, physio if you have one, and as a last resort your instructor might have seen a similar situation before and could advise (and help you with it).

My vets instructions only lasted until she comes off pen rest, 8 weeks (if all goes well) after surgery.

A physio is a good shout. Will see what mine says!

I do much better with a defined plan, as find the structure helpful and a plan means I stress less I general! Really want to make sure she has the right muscles to support her going forward.
