Just wondering whether someone could give me some help with fittening programmes for 3 of our horses. We don't have a menage on site so are limited to weekends at the moment until the nights get lighter, when they do we usually ride 6 times a week - mainly hacking, with some schooling on alternative weekends. The three of them can be lunged on a field down the road, but again it'd be weekends until the nights get lighter.
Blossom: Currently overweight, have started lunging and long reining as much as I can as I don't have a saddle for her at the moment. I'm trying a treeless saddle on her at the weekend so fingers crossed that fits. She's a pure bred welsh and a very good doer, I hold my hands up and admit that she's been fed too much this winter but she's now on a very strict diet. What other things can I do with her?
Seppie: Currently slightly underweight (condition score of 4 out of 9), she is 27 but certainly not ready to retire yet. She's very forward going and fizzy and although her current feed helps with that it isn't doing anything for her weight so she's been changed to Spillers response slow release cubes and spillers conditioning fibre (previously on veteran vitality and hi-fi original). She can loose muscle easily so we want to keep her in work whilst she puts the weight on.
Sox: Another who is slightly underweight but getting there, he's the same condition score as Seppie. I had started bringing him back into light work - just hacking out in walk with the occasional trot, although sometimes I need to remind him that jogging sideways down the road is not going to help!!
Thanks in advance
